Jeweled French Toy Box
Many people make centerpieces out of items they can donate to a worthy cause
after the party. Here’s a beautiful way to display these treasures.

Directions
- Prime the hat box, dowel and urn-style planter with “full flange” piece of closet pole socket
with Kilz (do painting outside and follow all breathing precautions).
- Paint all pieces with base color. When completely dry, use tape to mask off stripes on hat box
and to wrap around dowel in a spiral, leaving a narrow strip of painted wood showing. Paint second
color in unmasked areas; paint second color onto urn freehand, following the contours.
- Install closet pole socket in plastic urn by centering the “partial circle” piece inside urn on
bottom. Mark and drill screw holes. Line up other socket piece on outside, flange down so the urn
bottom is sandwiched between the two socket pieces. Thread screws through the three pieces from the
outside and secure with nuts inside the urn. Drill holes in rim about 3” apart to later thread crystals
through.
- File down one end of dowel so it will fit tightly into closet pole socket. Squeeze caulk adhesive
into socket and push dowel in, leveling urn.
- Fill plastic container ¾ with warm water. Pour in Plaster of Paris until the powder stops
disappearing and begins to stick up in a mound out of the water. Mix gently until you start to feel
mixture thicken. Stick the bottom of the dowel in and hold it straight until the plaster sets.
- Thread wire through the hole atop the little crystal that comes with each teardrop and twist.
Add crystal beads to wire to whatever length you wish. Stick wire through hole in rim from underside.
Thread one bead on above rim and feed wire back to underside of rim. Tighten to take up slack and twist
wire around beads to secure.
